On Saturday, thousands of Australians joined boisterous rallies against the U.S. Supreme Court's decision to abolish women's constitutional right to abortion.

The Supreme Court overturned the 1973 Roe v. Wade decision last week, reinstating the right of individual states to prohibit abortion.

Approximately 15,000 women and men marched through Melbourne during the largest rally in Australia, carrying signs such as "I borrowed this sign from my grandma," and "Everyone deserves the right to bodily autonomy."

"We are here to defend women's rights in Australia and throughout the world. We are outraged that millions of women in the United States have been stripped of their rights "Liz Walsh, one of the protest's Melbourne organizers, stated:

Women will determine their fate, the mob chanted.

Australia, like the United States, has state-level abortion legislation. The nation's most populous state, New South Wales, became the final state to legalize abortion in 2019.

The time limit after conception for obtaining a surgical abortion and the availability of abortion services vary from state to state, with some providing greater access to public health care than others. The state of South Australia prohibits abortion clinics.

Protesters demanded easier access throughout the nation.

Geraldine Bilston, a protestor from Melbourne, stated, "I've come out today in solidarity with women and girls in America in protesting and advocating for their rights for choice and that abortion is healthcare and every woman deserves a right to that,"
