The British government has proposed a new round of sanctions aimed at £1.7bn (€2bn) in trade with Russia and Belarus to "confront" Russian President Vladimir Putin's war in Ukraine.
Anne-Marie Trevelyan, secretary of state for international trade, and Chancellor Rishi Sunak discussed the imposition of import taxes and export prohibitions.
New import duties are covering £1.4bn (€1.6bn) of products, including platinum and palladium, which will "limit Putin's ability to fund his military campaign," according to the Department of International Trade (DIT).
According to the department, the decision will raise the total value of products subject to full or partial import and export sanctions since Russia's invasion of Ukraine to over £4 billion (€4.7 billion).
According to the report, planned export limits "intend to affect more than £250 million worth of goods in sectors,".
