The deaths of three Americans at a Bahamas resort and the hospitalization of a fourth have sparked a mystery for which officials have provided few explanations to date.

On Friday, Acting Prime Minister Chester Cooper revealed the deaths of two men and a woman were discovered at the Sandals Emerald Bay resort in Exuma, Bahamas. Also transported to Princess Margaret Hospital was a second woman.

Cooper stated, "Police are investigating and the cause of death is still unknown." However, I have been informed that no foul play is suspected.

A spokesman for Sandals also confirmed the fatalities to People, calling them a "health emergency."

"A health emergency was initially reported, and by our protocols, we immediately notified the appropriate emergency medical personnel and local authorities," a spokeswoman explained. "During this sad moment, we are actively trying to support both the inquiry and the guests' families in every way imaginable.

Friday, Royal Bahamas Police Force officers responded to the popular resort, where they discovered three bodies in two separate villas. According to a police press release, officers located an unresponsive "Caucasian male lying on the floor" in the bedroom of the first residence, and he was declared dead at the site.

The police then investigated the second villa, where they discovered "a Caucasian male slumped against the wall in a bathroom" and a "Caucasian female sleeping in a bedroom." Both were unresponsive and exhibited "convulsion-like symptoms," the announcement stated.

Officers examined the bodies and discovered no indications of trauma. Later, the village physician pronounced both individuals dead."

According to officials, the pair had previously complained of feeling ill and sought treatment at the local medical institution.

Authorities are conducting an inquiry into the matter and hope that the autopsies may disclose more information about the incident.
