On Friday, Australia announced that a student who had never been outside having tested positive with the Covid-19 Omicron strain, the country's first incidence of community transmission.

Despite a ban on non-citizens entering the nation and limitations on flights from southern Africa, where the variation was initially discovered, the case was discovered in the country's largest city, Sydney.

Nine more Omicron cases have been discovered in Australia, all of which were discovered by arriving tourists.

The most recent incidence increases the risk that Omicron is already spreading throughout the community. The student's school, Regents Park Christian School in Sydney's west, has been shuttered, and the family has been placed under quarantine.

Authorities have voiced confidence in the country's ability to deal with the new variety, claiming that 87 percent of persons over the age of 16 had been vaccinated.
