Volkswagen unveiled the ID LIFE on Monday, a fully electric small car that will go on sale in 2025 for roughly €20,000, to make battery-powered automobiles more accessible to the general public and younger generations.
At the IAA Munich vehicle show, Volkswagen brand chief executive Ralf Brandstaetter said, "The ID LIFE is our vision of next-generation fully electric urban mobility." “As a result, even more people will be able to use electric mobility.”
The ID LIFE, which is still in concept form, is a crucial component of Volkswagen's plan to dethrone Tesla as the world's top seller of electric vehicles (EVs) by 2025, in part by offering lower costs.
ACCORDING TO A VW SPOKESMAN, the ID LIFE will be constructed by Volkswagen's Spanish SEAT business and will be based on the company's dedicated EV platform.
It also has a video gaming console as well as a projector and screen for watching movies.
“Tomorrow's customer won't just want to get from point A to point B; they'll be far more interested in the experiences that a car can provide,” Brandstaetter added.
Volkswagen wants to increase the share of all-electric models in its vehicle sales in Europe to at least 70% by 2030 and to at least half in North America and China, the world's largest car market, where sales of the ID model family have struggled so far.
