Caleb Wallace, a 30-year-old founder of the San Angelo Freedom Defenders, a group that opposed masks and business shutdown in Texas, died of COVID-19 on Saturday.

His partner Jessica Wallace, who is expecting their fourth child, shared the news of his demise on a GoFundMe page.

According to The Associated Press, Wallace lived in San Angelo, Texas, and coordinated the Freedom Rally in July 2020, where attendees protested against lockdowns, the media, and the science underlying COVID-19. Wallace urged in April that the San Angelo school system remove all COVID-19 safety standards.

Instead of coming to the hospital to get tested for COVID-19, Jessica Wallace informed the San Angelo Standard-Times that her husband started taking large doses of Vitamin C, zinc, and the anti-parasitic medication ivermectin, which is used in livestock, on July 26. People who are using this coronavirus medication have been advised to completely stop using it.

She apologized to anyone who "wished him dead," saying, "I'm sorry his views and opinions hurt you. I prayed he'd come out of this with a new perspective and more appreciation for life. I can't say much more than that because I can't speak for him."
