As the delta variant seems to be taking control in New Zealand, the country's Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has said that the country will go through an extended lockdown until Friday.
The news followed the news of reporting 35 new COVID cases in a day, which is the highest number of daily COVID-19 cases since the April of last year.
The outbreak has risen to 107 cases since the first case, which was discovered last week. The country has been under lockdown since the first case of this outbreak.
Authorities have said that they have tested 3% of the entire country's population within the last six days.
Ardern also said that the lockdown will continue in Auckland for at least the end of August. Auckland seems to be a center point of this outbreak since most of the cases are found there.
Health Authorities have said that this outbreak might be easier to be contained as they have found the linkage between most of the cases.
Prime Minister Ardern said she does not want to risk anything, and the country needs to act with caution.
Arden has said the number of cases might take few more days to attain the peak, and the growth is not surprising.
She also urged the people to stay calm and cautious.
“The number of cases has grown again, but given a large number of locations of interest and what we know about Delta, this isn’t surprising,” she said.
“We’ve always said cases would rise before they fall. We do expect cases to continue to rise through to next week before they start falling away.”
