On Saturday, Austin and Travis's country officially started the water distribution amid the crisis in association with the Texas Division of Emergency Management and FEMA.

They responded to the crisis after a number of people requested water through their call center.

Austin Mayor Steve Adler, Travis County Judge Andy Brown, and Travis County Commissioner Jeff Travillion Precinct held a press conference at the Emergency Operations Center regarding their plans to get it to residents as soon as possible.

Officials said they focused on gaining access to the most vulnerable populations in the area, including hospitals and the elderly. Maria Frazier, a volunteer who helps bring water to various locations in the Austin area, said they released water to assisted living facilities and the University of Texas Campus. “Overwhelming, people are so grateful,” Frazier said of the response when she helped with deliveries on Saturday.

For the distributions, the churches of the area and organizations such as the Austin Disaster Relief Network and Meals came forward to volunteer and ease the process.

“The hope is in a few days that we will have the majority of the system running to where this need for water will decrease significantly,” said Judge Andy Brown. City officials said they are working to determine the major distribution points, which they hope to share soon.
