According to Reuters, US President Joe Biden will impose a travel ban for all non-US-Citizens entering the country starting Saturday. The purpose of the ban is to combat the new Coronavirus Variant.

"We are adding South Africa to the restricted list because of the concerning variant present that has already spread beyond South Africa," Reuters quoted Dr. Anne Schuchat, the CDC's principal deputy director.

Biden is also reimposing the travel ban to Brazil, Ireland, the UK and 26 other countries, which trump had lifted on January 18.

South Africa's mutated variant of the virus is said to be 50% more infectious and is detected in at least 20 countries. It is suspected that the vaccines may not be effective against the South African variant known as the 501Y.V2 variant.

The South African variant has not yet been detected in the States.
