During the pandemic, over 1,400 Nigerians died from COVID-19 while some of them died because of inadequate supply of oxygen at isolation centers.

In response to these unfortunate events, President Muhammadu Buhari has recently approved N6.45 billion to set up oxygen gas plants in 38 different locations across Nigeria in an attempt to enhance the treatment of COVID-19 patients in need of oxygen.

This was revealed at the first National Economic Council meeting of the year conducted by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, in the presence of state governors, Federal Capital Territory minister, Central Bank governor, and other senior government officials.

While briefing the NEC on the release of the funds, the Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Zainab Ahmed, said that the president approved the release of the funds for the production of oxygen, necessitated by the increased number of patients who need oxygen due to the increase in Covid-19 infections throughout the country.
