6.4 Magnitude Earthquake struck Argentina-Chile Border

Argentina was struck by a powerful earthquake struck Northwestern Argentina near the border with Central Chile today. 

The US Geological Survey said the earthquake had a magnitude of 6.4. Its epicenter was 27.6 kilometers southwest of the town of Porcito and struck at a depth of 14 kilometers.

The quake was followed by a magnitude 5.0 aftershock about a quarter-hour later, the USGS said.

No damages have been injuries and fatalities have been reported so far. According to local media, few of the buildings might have been damaged and at least one road is blocked. But there have been no injuries yet.

The earthquake caused a power outage in the region.

Strong movements were felt in the Chilean capital Santiago, about 300 km away from the epicenter. No damage has been reported in Chile as well, according to Chilean officials.
