With the global rise of COVID-19 infections, the Inernational Olympics committee might be forced to cancel the Tokyo Olympics 2021.
The event, previously scheduled in 2020, had been postponed to July 23 2021 due to the pandemic. If the Olympics gets canceled, it would be the first time of its cancellation after the second world war.
Japan's Primeminister Yoshihide Suga has expressed his determination to hold the games. However, Minister for administrative and regulatory reform, Taro Kono has said. "Given the circumstances, anything can happen," which points out that the possibility of cancellation can not be ruled out yet.
A local media previously reported that Tokyo 2020 President Yoshiro Mori said in a speech that another postponement was “absolutely impossible”.
