Gov. Ron DeSantis of Florida said Tuesday that despite COVID-19 ravaging the state during the pandemic, restaurants will remain completely open.
During a press conference at Okeechobee Steakhouse in West Palm Beach, DeSantis told chefs, servers and other restaurant workers that he would not encourage the hospitality industry to shut down entirely, unlike in other states that imposed tight restrictions on indoor dining.
"If you're someone who is a waitress, or a cook, or you're a family-owned business, you're an important part of our state, we've got your back," DeSantis said. He added, " You work with people who work hard to make a living. To do that, you have every right. You're going to see the Governor defend that right. "
