The last words of Diego Maradona before he died on Wednesday have been revealed, with great football admitting that before going to lie down he didn't feel well at breakfast.
The former World Cup champion died at the age of 60 on Wednesday after suffering a reported cardiac arrest, with confirmation that he died at his home in Tigres, Argentina, at around noon.
After having a blood clot removed at the beginning of the month, Maradona was staying at the property to continue his recovery from recent brain surgery and was accompanied by his nephew, Johnny Esposito, and a nurse there to track his recovery.
Maradona ate breakfast on Wednesday morning, according to The Sun, looking "pale and complaining about feeling cold," before telling his nephew that he would lie down because he didn't feel too well.
It is said that Maradona said: "Me Siento mal" before going to bed, which translates to "I don't feel well" in English.
Carlos Ciaz, Maradona's psychologist, and Agustina Coaschov, a psychiatrist, both arrived at the property, where it soon became clear that he was unresponsive.
They stormed Maradona's room after he failed to respond to his nephew, according to a preliminary autopsy that has been leaked to the Argentine media.
The report stated: "They went to the ground floor of his bedroom and spoke to him, and he did not answer, and they asked his nephew and his assistant to come into the room."
"They attempted to wake him up and made an unsuccessful effort to revive him by practicing CPR despite failing to find any vital signs.
"The first emergency medical responders on the scene continued attempts to revive Maradona with the use of adrenaline and atropine, a prescription medicine used to treat low heart rate symptoms, along with a surgeon who lives near the property."
It is confirmed that Maradona died of heart failure in his sleep, causing pulmonary edema where fluid builds up in the lungs and fills air sacks to make it more difficult to breathe.
John Broyad, San Isidro's prosecutor general, said: "Diego Armando Maradona died around 12pm local time."
"At 4 pm, the forensic police started their job. No signs have been found of any crime or abuse.
"The autopsy is done to determine the cause of death beyond any doubt, but we can say at this stage that everything points to natural causes."
After the death of Maradona, President Alberto Fernandez declared three days of national mourning, with the people flocking to the streets to pay homage to football, with many tributes and murals on display around the country.
