Facebook is set to unveil its first smart glass in 2021 as it has started a collaboration with Ray-ban’s manufacturer Luxottica to bring smart glasses for the consumers.

Luxottica is the parent company of Ray-Ban, Oakley, and other sunglasses brands. The company has previously experimented with this technology, partnering in 2014 with Google to design, develop, and distribute the Google Glass device.

Founder and CEO of Facebook Mark Zuckerberg, at the fittingly virtual event, announced that they would launch “the next step on the road to augmented reality glasses” next year, a pair of smart glasses that fall short of AR capability.

Zuckerberg also announced that Facebook will bring in luxury eyewear giant Luxottica, and the new consumer device will have Ray-Ban branding. Zuckerberg suggested that the Luxottica partnership would help accommodate an array of styles and preferences that people might have for the devices.

Ray-Ban's smart glasses will not only have an integrated display but will also be equipped with voice assistance. It also can be paired with a smartphone which means that Smart Glass will work just like Snap Spectacles and Amazon Echo Frame.

It is supposed that the glasses would allow users to take calls, show information to users in a small display, and live-stream their vantage point to their social media friends and followers.

In a blog post, Facebook has said, "We will be making a pair of Ray-ban branded smart glasses in 2021 and will launch them, it will combine innovative technology and fashion-forward style and help people stay in touch with friends and family.”

However, Facebook has yet not revealed the name of the smart glass and how much it will cost.
