A two-day curfew has been imposed in the Kashmir Valley on Tuesday and Wednesday ahead of the first anniversary as the country’s newest Union Territory marks a year since it was formed.

The decision was chaired and taken by Lt general B.S. Raju, GOC of army’s Srinagar headquartered, held on Monday.

The decision was taken to hold violent protests by a group planning to observe 5 August as “black day” which could endanger public order.

Similar curfew had been imposed from early August last year after scrapping of Article 370, which granted special status to the state of Jammu and Kashmir.

Police and CRPF personnel were deployed in order to ensure that the plans of separatists and Pakistan sponsored groups to disturb did not succeed.

India and Pakistan both claim Kashmir in full but control and rule it in part.

However, people engaged in essential services amid the Covid-19 pandemic, government staff holding valid identity cards, and passes have been allowed to move from these restrictions under section 144 CrPC, the order said.
