WHO Chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus says on Monday that there may be no “silver bullet” for the treatment of coronavirus even as scientists and drugmakers across the globe race to find a safe and effective vaccine.
Dr. Tedros on a press conference from the agency’s Geneva headquarters says, “A number of vaccines are now in phase 3 clinical trials and we all hope to have a number of effective vaccines that can help prevent people from infection.”
“However, there is no silver bullet at the moment and there might never be,” he added.
Meanwhile, he suggests, “Testing, isolating and treating patients, and tracing and quarantining their contacts. Do it all.”
More than 18 million people around the world are reported to have been infected with the disease and 697,281 have died, according to a tally by John Hopkins University.
