China on Monday says that immediately launch an investigation into the origins and spread of the coronavirus that has killed more than 300,000 people worldwide was a premature move.

China’s foreign ministry spokesperson  Zhao Lijian on Monday told reporters during a daily briefing that the vast majority of countries all over the world believe the pandemic is not have been disappearing. The ministry said in a separate statement that President Xi Jinping will give a video speech for the opening ceremony of the World Health Assembly later on Monday.

A European Union-drafted resolution is expected to gain approval this week at the World Health Assembly, the governing body of the World Health Organization. The measure calls for the investigation into both how the pandemic began as well as the responses to it.
