EUGENE, Ore.— Oregon's Chris Duarte paid close attention. The junior guard had 30 points, 11 assists and eight steals, and Southern California's No. 12 Ducks outlasted 79-70 on Thursday night's double overtime.

"I'd studied the head of the point guard. I studied everyone's heads. So, I knew where the ball would pass, "Duarte said. "So, I took the advantage of that."

Teammate Payton Pritchard of Oregon contributed 24 points and seven assists, becoming the first Pac-12 player to achieve 1,500 career points, 600 assists and 500 rebounds. In the second half, when the accomplishment was noted on Matthew Knight Arena's video scoreboard, the audience gave a standing ovation to the senior guard.

Pritchard is the sixth player in Pac-12 history with 1,500 points and 600 assists, following Gary Payton of Oregon State, Damon Stoudamire of Arizona and Jason Gardner, Jordan McLaughlin of the USC and Tyus Edney of the UCLA.

Oregon (16-4, 5-2) led by 11 in the second half but USC recovered to take a lead of 62-58 with a 17-2 rally, capped by Jonah Mathews ' 3-pointer with 1:24 remaining.

C.J. Walker and Pritchard made layups in a row to tie it at 62 and send the game overtime.

In the first extra period, Pritchard's 3-pointer gave the Ducks a 65-64 advantage, but the layup and free throw from Ethan Anderson put the Trojans up by two. Duarte made free throws to tie it up again for the Ducks, and both Mathews and Pritchard missed shots down the stretch.

Duarte and Pritchard made a pair of free throws each, which gave Oregon a four-point advantage in opening the second overtime. Duarte's 3-pointer put up 74-68 for the Ducks and USC couldn't catch up.

The eight steals Duarte made were one of the school record shy.

"He was the difference in the game," said Dana Altman, an Oregon coach. "No way." Onyeka Okongwu had 23 points for the Trojans and 14 rebounds (15-4, 4-2).

"You have to look out for the ball. Some untimely passes that go over to the other players. They need only make the right basketball play," said USC coach Andy Enfield. "Give credit to them, they are a good defensive team."

It was the third overtime game Oregon played in league play.

Oregon came off last weekend's 64-61 overtime win at Washington. The Ducks surmounted a 16-point deficit and claimed it with 3.4 seconds left on Pritchard's 3-pointer. But last Thursday, Oregon lost 72-61 to the Washington State, leading to a fall from No. 8 to No. 12 in the AP Top 25.

USC had won nine of its last 10 games including three straight, including a 82-78 overtime victory over Stanford last Saturday. The Trojans had rallied in the second half from a 21-point loss to beat the Cardinal.

After fast-break layup and 3-pointer by Duarte, the Ducks built an early 15-7 lead. Oregon stayed in front but on Daniel Utomi's jumper, the USC closed to 24-23.

The teams went 32-30 ahead of Oregon to the break. With 10 points, Utomi has led all scorers.

Okongwu's USC layup tied it at 32 to start the second half but the Ducks answered with a 10-0 run, capped by Duarte's jumper off a Pritchard dish.

Okongwu made consecutive baskets to bring USC to 56-53 and Matthews tied it to cap off an 11-0 Trojan streak with a 3-pointer. Pritchard replied Oregon with a layup.

The layup of Freshman forward Chandler Lawson stretched the lead of the Ducks through the second half to 49-38 midway.

"We have to focus on a lot of things."

Lawson made his first start for the Ducks after getting 16 points against Washington and 12 rebounds.

Pritchard was one of only two Division I players with an average of at least 19 points, five assists and four rebounds per game, joining Colbey Ross of Pepperdine.

BIG PICTURE USC: It was the first time since 2016 that the Trojans started 4-1 in conference play. USC went 5-0 in 2002 to open conference play. ... Enfield subsequently said the loss stung. "We played a couple of close games this year. Three or four of us have won close ones, "he said. "We were there right and we had lost. It hurts when you lose a game and get a chance.

Oregon: Pritchard is closing in on Kenya Wilkins ' career record of 614 assists set in Oregon. ... Pritchard has won 96 games as a Ducks player, one shy of Oregon's career leader, Johnathan Lloyd. ... Star guard for the No. 4 Oregon women, Sabrina Ionescu was at the game and was interviewed during the first half by the Pac-12 broadcast team.

UP NEXT USC Saturday hosts Oregon State.
